Affiliate Disclosure

A plain account of how Monochromer supports itself and how that arrangement is kept separate from what we write.

Last updated: September 2026

How This Site Is Funded

Monochromer is a general-audience publication about the fundamentals of modeling information processes: how collection, processing, storage, and transmission of information can be represented, what assumptions underlie common models, and where those models tend to reach their limits. Producing this material has a cost, and to help cover that cost, some of the pages on this site may include affiliate links. When a reader follows one of these links to a third-party site and then takes a qualifying action there, such as signing up for a service or making a purchase, we may earn a small commission from that third party. We want to be direct about this rather than leave it implied: we may earn money in this way, and this page explains exactly how.

What an Affiliate Link Is

An affiliate link is an ordinary hyperlink that carries a tracking code identifying it as having come from Monochromer. When someone clicks that link and later completes a qualifying action on the destination site, the operator of that site may pay us a referral fee. The link still takes you to the same destination, and the destination site treats you the same way it treats any other visitor; the only difference is that the referral is attributed to us behind the scenes.

What It Costs You

Nothing. Using an affiliate link does not change the price you pay, add a fee, or alter any terms offered by the third party. The commission, where one exists, is paid by the third-party business out of its own margin, not added on top of anything you are charged. Whether you use a link found on this site or reach the same destination independently, the cost to you is identical.

How This Affects What We Publish

Monochromer's editorial content is written first, independent of any commercial arrangement. Our articles describe typical situations in the modeling of information processes for general understanding; they are not built around promoting a particular product, service, or brand, and a commission opportunity never determines whether a topic is covered or how it is explained. If a link happens to be affiliated, that fact has no bearing on the accuracy or balance of the surrounding text. We do not accept payment in exchange for a specific recommendation, and we do not adjust our explanations to favour one commercial party over another.

How to Identify Affiliate Links

Where affiliate links are present on a page, we aim to make their nature reasonably clear, either through a note near the link itself or through this disclosure page, which is linked from the site's shared footer so it is reachable from anywhere on Monochromer. If you are ever unsure whether a particular link is affiliated, you are welcome to write to us and ask, and we will answer honestly.

Advertising and Sponsored Content

Monochromer does not currently run paid display advertising or accept sponsored articles. Should that change in the future, this page will be updated to reflect it, and any sponsored material would be labelled as such at the point it is published, separately from the affiliate arrangements described above.

Third-Party Sites

We do not control the content, policies, availability, or business practices of the third-party sites that affiliate links lead to. Once you leave Monochromer, you are subject to the terms and privacy practices of the destination site, and we encourage you to review those before taking any action there. Inclusion of a link is not an endorsement of everything offered by the destination site, nor a personalised recommendation suited to your specific circumstances.
